Do Your Business Photos Reflect Professionalism?
Posted by Jana on 04 Jul 2017 / 0 Comment

You are a passionate business owner with a solution to many people’s problems;

You enjoy sharing your expertise and know that so many can learn from you;

And your number one goal is to enhance people’s lives and make a difference with what you do.

But are people seeing you and experiencing all that you have to offer?

A common mistake many entrepreneurs and business owners make is the lack of professionalism in their photos and marketing materials. Or even a lack of business photos at all!

If this is you, you are not alone; is your presence visible in front of your ideal clients? Is your headshot present on your website, Facebook page/profile, business card, and other marketing materials? For people to recognize you and your brand, they need to see you and your business clearly in front of them at the appropriate times.

Headshots are the first photo we recommend with your business. This is the starting point and should be the bare minimum when representing yourself. You can learn more about the importance of headshots here.

Important tip: Always make sure your headshot is up to date. It can be irritating for people to see a photo of you and then when they meet you in person, realize you look nothing like your headshot you have been using with your materials. We recommend updating your headshot once every year or two.

Next, we recommend that you have some photos taken of your staff (if applicable), and your business location/setting. This gives people a sense of who you are and what your business is about. If you work from home, consider having some professional photos taken with some props to represent your business.

Many people make the mistake of using a grainy, poorly-lit selfie as their business headshot and have no other photos to represent them and their business. Be wary of doing this; it can carry a lot of weight when it comes to how your potential clients view your professionalism.

To get started, we recommend you book a photo session today!

Capture the long days of summer with a family portrait
Posted by Jana on 15 Jun 2017 / 0 Comment

A family portrait is a treasure at any time – but Summer provides such a wonderful opportunity to capture the joy of a family at play.

This Summer, why not create a lasting memory and a unique piece of art, with a portrait taken outside in the beauty of nature.

Here’s a tip for a wonderful Summer portrait:

  • If you have young children, portraits of them playing in the water will bring a smile to your face for years to come.
  • If your family has a special place such as a farm or cabin – or even just a favourite spot in the local park – this is a wonderful backdrop for a fun, relaxed portrait.

We also recommend you bring the following to your Summer portrait:

  • Sunscreen on hot days
  • Clothing you feel comfortable in
  • Insect repellent – just in case!
  • Props (if the location does not have a lot of playful options)
  • Cold drinks and snacks for younger ones

Miko Photography is now taking bookings for on-location shoots this summer.

Call (403) 451-9769 or email info@mikophotography.com to book your session now!

Celebrate Mom this May!
Posted by Jana on 13 Apr 2017 / 0 Comment

Your mom has done many things for you in your life. Celebrate her this May for Mother’s Day with a special gift that she can cherish for years to come. Give mom the gift of JOY this Mother’s Day with a family photo session.

Here are three great ideas to make this Mother’s Day gift the best ever…..

  1. Book a photo session of the kids and/or grandkids now to have an online gallery to share with mom on Mother’s Day. Let her choose her favourites as a Mother’s Day gift! This way you know she’ll be getting exactly what she wants because she will have chosen the images while still enjoying the surprise element of the gift by being presented with the online gallery to enjoy.
  2. Give Mom a gift certificate and join her for the photo shoot at a later date! Family photos, a mother & daughter photo shoot, grandparents with grandkids or a multi generation photo shoot are all option she could choose from a gift certificate. As with our Christmas promotion, we love to help you be extra generous with your gift certificates so give us a call and we’ll add an extra gift to your gift certificate to help you celebrate Mom this year!
  3. If you are a Mom, give yourself a gift this Mother’s day – you deserve it! These image are from a session that was just that, a gift this mom gave herself. What a great gift that both mom and daughter will cherish for years to come.

However you celebrate, I wish you the happiest of Mother’s Days filled with love, laughter & and photos to commemorate the occasion! Call Jana at Miko Photography, 403 451 9769 or contact us here to give the joy of photography this year.

5 Easy Ideas for Spring-Inspired Photos
Posted by Jana on 29 Mar 2017 / 0 Comment

It’s finally Spring! One of my favourite times of the year is Spring. The snow starts to melt, the sun shines a little longer into the day, and the weather is nice enough to start doing some fun activities outside with the kids. It’s also that time of year where you can play with some really fun photo ideas (perhaps even get some taken when your family is all together for Easter!)

Here are 5 easy ideas for cute Spring-inspired photos with your kids:

  1. Go to your local dollar store and check out their selection of umbrellas. You’d be surprised with the neat patterns you will find! Let each kid choose their favourite umbrella for some photos that are sure to produce some giggles.
  2. If you have girls, are they into tea parties? Find some fun dresses and sunhats at your local thrift shop and a cute tea set (plus some stuffed animals if you choose!) for some memorable shots of your girls.
  3. Pretty soon the dandelions will be out. Have some fun in a field of golden yellow dandelions and take advantage of this pop of colour for some bright and cheery photos.
  4. Check out a nearby park with trees, swings, and slides for some action shots.
  5. Paint some eggs or create some Easter crafts that can be used as props in a photoshoot.

From now until the end of June, we have some Spring mini photo sessions at Fish Creek Park. This package includes a 30 minute photo session and an 8×10 print or a set of 5×7 prints for only $79.

Take advantage of the long evenings and enjoy a photo session with your family in the beauty of nature.  Our sessions are fun and relaxed and we aim to capture photos that reflect who you are as a family.  Call Jana at 403 451 9769 to book.
