Living With What You Love

For many people, home decorating isn’t just a fun hobby; it is what makes a house feel like a home, and allows you to creatively implement your own unique style.  Every home is different, and each is decorated in its own way, but there are always certain homes that stand out as memorable.  These homes are the ones that hold the precious memories of family photos.

Your family photos can lend a personal touch to your home decor, and create a warm, friendly environment for your guests.  Not only do family photos remind you of happy days, events, and momentous occasions, but they are also great conversation starters, and can add a sense of comfort to your home.

Here are some great tips from Home Tone for decorating your rooms with family photographs: (more…)

Tips and tricks for the Perfect Headshot!

It doesn’t matter what line of work you are in, a professional headshot is important.  Some may find it common to shortcut this necessary element by looking at a headshot as redundant or a useless expense; however, your headshot should be used as a powerful tool to portray an image to your potential clients, to share your brand, and to show the face behind your business.  Because facial recognition is wired deeply inside every human mind, it is to your advantage to provide a headshot that people can identify and remember you by.  It is a key element in the ‘know, like, and trust’ factor. Tips for Preparing for your Newborn Photoshoot
Posted by Jana on 16 Jan 2015 / 0 Comment

Have you, or someone you know, ever wondered how to prepare for a newborn photoshoot?  What to bring, what to schedule, what to ask your photographer, and more?  We all want to capture those precious moments of our child’s first few days or weeks into the world, and it is common to have some questions surrounding newborn photoshoots.  Here are some tips to keep in mind:

Tip 1:  Schedule an appropriate time for your photo session.

If possible, let your photographer know your due date in advance.  That way, they will know approximately when to fit you into their schedule.  Once baby is born, the optimal time to do a newborn photo session is when they are 5-10 days old.  Although we can certainly do a photo session with babies older than two weeks, babies ten days or younger will typically sleep more soundly, they are less alert and fussy, and easier to arrange for various positions.

When it comes to babies, things don’t always go as planned.  Make sure you allow ample time in your schedule for a photo session.  Ensure your baby is well fed, and well rested (as best you can; we know that things happen, even if you have good intentions!)

Tip 2:  Consider who will be part of the photo session.

We encourage parents to be a part of the newborn photo session, for at least a few pictures.  You may also want to take the time decide if there is anyone else you would like to be part of the session:  Grandparents, siblings, etc.  Whoever you decide to have in the photos, consider color coordinating for best results.

Tip 3:  Decide what the baby will wear.

Some moms have a theme in mind when it comes to their baby’s newborn photos.  Others just aren’t sure.  Do you have a specific color in mind, and do you want certain props? Talk to your photographer beforehand to discuss your options.  Some of the best newborn photos are when the baby is naked and just has a cute hate or accessory to accompany them.  Quite often, newborn clothing does not fit properly, so keep that in mind when thinking of ideas for your photo session.  If you do decide that you would like your baby to wear clothing, make sure it is comfortable, loose clothing.  Ensure you loosen your baby’s diaper at least 30 minutes before the session.  This will eliminate imprint marks.

Again, it is not up to you to come up with creative ideas for your baby’s photo session if you are unsure; your photographer will be able to help.

Tip 4:  Decide what you will wear.

For newborn portraits, we usually recommend you wear a black, long-sleeved top.  The dark top is both flattering and gives a nice contrast to the baby’s skin.  A long-sleeved black top will give more emphasis on the baby when being held for these and convert nicely into black and white photos.  If you have another look in mind we’d love to chat with you about it and work with your vision to create the look you want.

Tip 5:  Be prepared for warm temperatures.

Any good photographer will have the courtesy to keep the room nice and toasty for your baby’s photoshoot.  We want the baby to be as comfortable as possible.  Ensure you wear clothing that accommodates both moderately warm, and very warm temperatures.

Tip 6:  Ask questions.

If at anytime you have questions during the scheduling process, or the day of the photoshoot, don’t hesitate to ask your photographer.  That is what we are here for!  We want to ease any questions or concerns you may have.

Tip 7:  Think about keepsakes and baby announcements.

Once the photo session is done, and pictures are in your possession, consider making a keepsake box or baby announcements of your little one.  Your child is a precious gift, and it is important to preserve these memories.

Tip 8:  Relax and Enjoy!

We love being able to share this special time with you!  With experience in newborn photo sessions, your baby is in good hands, and we know you will create new, exciting memories during the photo session.
