Living With What You Love

For many people, home decorating isn’t just a fun hobby; it is what makes a house feel like a home, and allows you to creatively implement your own unique style.  Every home is different, and each is decorated in its own way, but there are always certain homes that stand out as memorable.  These homes are the ones that hold the precious memories of family photos.

Your family photos can lend a personal touch to your home decor, and create a warm, friendly environment for your guests.  Not only do family photos remind you of happy days, events, and momentous occasions, but they are also great conversation starters, and can add a sense of comfort to your home.

Here are some great tips from Home Tone for decorating your rooms with family photographs:

Tip 1:  Make a careful plan

For hanging several photos, or life-sized enlarged photos:

  • Envision how the wall will look with your photo frames.
  • Decide on the particular arrangement you want your photos to be hung.
  • Instead of hanging all the photo frames in one row, try a zigzag style.
  • Consider how the wall paint will look against the photos.

Tip 2:  Consider classic black and white photos

For classic black and white photos:

  • Create a collage of several pictures, and get a big frame, or hang them all separately.
  • Use some pop coloured wall hangings and funny framed quotes to go along with the black and white photos.
  • Break up the monotony with a pop of coloured furniture or show pieces.

Tip 3:  Try a combination of horizontal and vertical

Switch things up a bit, by doing a mix of horizontal and vertical photos:

  • Get the sames sized photo frames, and hang some horizontal, and some vertical, creating a maze-like effect.
  • Combine some photos of your kids with some photos of nature (like birds or flowers) for variety.

Tip 4:  Enlarge your best photos

Even a single large photo can change the look of a room:

  • Take your most memorable photos (wedding, baby’s first steps, graduation) and get at least one enlarged.
  • Make sure the photo frame complements the photo and matches the wall.

Tip 5:  Utilize the staircase

An interesting place to hang your kids’ photos is the staircase wall:

  • Write a nice quote on the wall to go along with the photos.
  • Ensure there is sufficient light for seeing the photographs.
  • Your guests can admire the photos as they climb the staircase.

These are just a few tips from Home Tone that you can use in your own home.  Need to update your family photos??  Contact us to arrange a date and time for a photo shoot.
